Lepidoptera affinitas.

Moth and butterfly wings are covered in tiny colourful scales. Up close, these sections of wing look like tiny artworks in their own right. How these scales are placed next to each other also impacts our perception of their colour. These pieces come from working on many studies of scales for larger pieces, combined into one piece.

'Lepidoptera' is the scientific name for butterflies and moths. It literally means 'scaled wing' in Ancient Greek. 'Affinitas' is Latin, meaning relationship or community. The diversity of colours, overlapping parts and and layers represent how family relationships and community interact and influence one another.
