Oil, acrylic and gold metal-leaf on linen
This butterfly is one of Australia's more common butterflies, found throughout most Australia (excluding the far north and central WA) and occasionally New Zealand, when carried further by westerly winds. Being so common it is often taken for granted, but have you ever really taken a closer look?
The blue of the background is an intense matt ultramarine blue. I have used touches of gold leaf and gold paint on specific scales that do appear as gold in the real butterfly. I have painted tiny hairs. There are also small areas of duo-chrome pigment as highlights (pigments that shift in colour depending on the angle of the light) in small areas as relevant for the species as I have observed it.
I use the highest grade and lightfast-rated artist grade materials to ensure that with the correct care, your artwork should remain vibrant for generations!
This piece is signed on the front; plus signed, titled and dated on the back. It comes with a signed and embossed Certificate of Authenticity and the creation of every print from the edition is carefully recorded in a register.
