Butterfly Wing-Scales No.62
80cm x 115cm unframed.
[Framed dimensions for this piece would be 100cm x 135cm].
Original watercolour and oil pastel painting on thick 300gsm watercolour paper.
This painting is based on the tiny brightly coloured microsopic scales that cover a butterflies wing! It is cut out around the outer edge and intended to be floated 5mm in a box frame like a museum specimen under glass. This casts a lovely shadow and makes a real impact.
I have painted it on beautiful thick, textured cold press watercolour paper with watercolours and oil pastels. The oil pastels have a sheen to them while the watercolours are more matt, this creates a beautiful contrast. The paper has a gentle undulation to it to enhance the idea that this is an organic specimen on a grand-scale.
I use the highest grade and lightfast-rated artist grade materials to ensure that with the correct care, your artwork should remain vibrant for generations!
Please note this painting is sold unframed. I ship the artworks unframed, rolled in a tube, as it is safer, greener and far less expensive than shipping a massive artwork in a custom built crate. I provide a PDF of framing instructions for your framer of choice and I am happy to correspond with them directly to ensure your piece is framed as intended!
This piece is signed on the front along the bottom right edge; plus signed, titled and dated on the back.
It comes with a signed and embossed Certificate of Authenticity and the creation of every print from the edition is carefully recorded in a register.
SHIPPING IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.

Please note that I have aimed to get the pictures as accurate as possible. However the surface of the paper has a more matt, textured and non-reflective effect (excluding any metal leaf scales which are VERY light reflective). Whereas a computer screen is shiny and bright! Please take this into account when viewing these pieces as it can impact your overall perception of the piece.
